Volunteer for Conservation
Conservation work is altruistic and there will always be a need for volunteers. But being a volunteer for conservation works both ways; you can get out as much you put in. At the same time that you are helping, you will be gaining knowledge, experience, skills and networks to help you in all your life’s endeavours. Volunteering is fun and worthwhile - it fits my favourite adage: it is up to me. More...

Conservation Volunteers Australia
Volunteering with Conservation Volunteers Australia has been so good for me not only physically, but also in the social aspect. I have met some wonderful local volunteers and lots of young people from all over the world. It has been great to be part of a team of individuals who are all working to improve the environment. Combining my passions, knowledge and experience into some extraordinary volunteering work
I am passionate about environmental issues. In particular, the impact of climate change and the global development of sustainable practices. I am a student at the University of New South Wales studying Renewable Energy Engineering, and since discovering Green Cross Australia, I have combined my passions, knowledge and experience into some extraordinary volunteering work. ACT Rural Fire Service
I wanted to be a fire fighter since I was 4 years of age. I remember sitting in my first fire truck at a fair devastated that they would not let me stay and play with the hose and listen to sirens all day – they told me to return when I was 16. So, on my 16th birthday I returned and I am now one of a handful of people that jump out of helicopters to fight remote bushfires. Today I am a volunteer for the ACT Rural Fire Service, an apprentice carpenter and an extreme weather hero! More...
Tasmanian Wilderness Society
Over the last ten years I've continued to volunteer on and off for 'TWS' in many different ways - fund-raising, public speaking, fauna surveys, protest marches and information stalls. It's always felt good to do what I can to help protect our wild places. . More...
RSPCA – For the love of animals
I have always loved animals and have always been really dismayed to hear stories about how animals were abused and treated cruely. I would donate money when I could but I wanted to do something more that would have a direct impact on their lives. I went onto the RSPCA website as I have always admired the work they do. More...
Volunteer at Mornington Wildlife Sanctuary
When I pulled out of the professional mainstream in 2006 I looked for opportunities to offer my skills to non-profit organizations. I checked many NGO’s in Australia and abroad but found that most sought a longish term commitment which did not suit me. I offered my skills to the Australian Wildlife Conservancy and was advised that the 12 safari huts at Mornington Wildlife Sanctuary in the Kimberleys were in dire need of work to remedy major erosion to the foundations. I agreed to help. More...
Re-forestation in East Timor
In 2003 I traveled to East Timor with a grand hope to land a gig volunteering and help a struggling new country find its feet. It was an interesting time to be in the young country, one year old at the time, and there was still a certain essence of hostility in some places. However, generally it was a very safe place and the people were kind and generous. More...
A day at the RSPCA with my collegues
Some colleagues and I visited the RSPCA to lend a helping hand to the beautiful doggies and kitties that need help. After this initial day, I've since returned to the RSPCA in my own time to volunteer at their Open Day. More...
One of my fondest memories...
I volunteered at Relay for Life, a fundraising event organised by the Cancer Council of WA. We helped with the sausage sizzle, acted as crowd controllers, and helped to sell ice-creams. Half-way into the night, the heavens opened up and poured down with rain. We were absolutely soaked, there was nothing to do but laugh. It's one of the best memories I have, a night of sadness mingled with love, laughter and life. More...
People’s Assembly on Climate Refugees
My volunteering role with Green Cross Australia is kind of unique! My first task back in early 2007 was delivering bags of ice for the Green Cross Australia launch party. Building on this experience (and others) I recently presented the final report from the National People’s Assembly on Climate Refugees in Poznan, Poland. More...
