FareShare rescues surplus food and cooks free, nutritious meals for Australians doing it tough. Every year, two million Australians will experience hunger. But, over the same period, we’ll also waste 200kg of food for every man, woman and child in the nation. This doesn’t make any sense. So Australian food charity, FareShare, is doing something about it. With the help of volunteers, FareShare cooks rescued surplus, quality food from supermarkets, farmers and other businesses into meals. These free nutritious meals are then distributed to those who need them most through other charities – such as soup vans, homeless shelters, food banks and school breakfast programs. We do all of this from Australia's largest charity kitchens - we cook 5,000 meals a day from our charity kitchen in Abbotsford, Melbourne, while our kitchen in Morningside, Brisbane (opening August 2018), will have the capacity to cook 5 million meals a year.
