Able-bodied volunteers ( sailor assist ) are required in Hobart to help disabled sailors rig, manoeuvre dinghies and assist sailors in and out of dinghies. No sailing or other experience necessary. We will provide training for the tasks required. Sundays 8.30 - 10 am and 11.45 - 1 pm at the Derwent Sailing Squadron Sandy Bay. This program allows participants to compete in dinghy sailing in Hansa 303 dinghies with the aim of training and increasing the competency of people to gain the level of skill to participate in racing at a local, national or international level. The program operates on a weekly basis in summer & fortnightly in winter. We seek Skippers and Forward hands on a weekly basis to facilitate our ongoing service providing sailing experiences for disabled people of all ages, students with special needs, residents of supported group homes plus volunteers (Skippers and Forward Hands ) who assist with sailing activities. Client and volunteer safety is its highest concern. Volunteers will become members of Australian Sailing and will be covered by their accident insurance cover. Sailability Tasmania facilitates participation in sailing and boat usage at social, recreational and competitive levels for anyone, but its primary focus is to involve people with disabilities, regardless of age or level of impairment. The organisation operates on a voluntary basis by its members and has yachts in Hobart, Launceston & Wynyard.
