Logo for Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation (QLD)

We provide programs to young people 8-18 years experiencing family mental illness with the aim of empowering them to build resilience, lifelong knowledge and connections, so they can reach their potential. We provide evidence-based, age appropriate prevention and early intervention mental health services, embedded within a peer-based social and activity based format. Children attend camps, fun activity days and online Connect chat sessions featuring mental health education. Volunteers on Camps support young people for a weekend of fun activities and adventure. This includes running chat groups, helping the young people with the activities and connecting with young people during the whole weekend. Volunteers on Activity days support and supervise young people on the activity, can run a chat group and make a connection with the young people attending. Activity Days are held on weekends and during the week on school holidays. Volunteers on Connect sessions help facilitate online 45 minute chat sessions run via Zoom. The sessions involve brain exercises and an online activity besides general conversation with young people. Connect runs during the week in the afternoon and evenings. Volunteers can choose which programs they would like to help out on according to their availability by signing up via an App. We are seeking people who are passionate in supporting young people with their mental health. Being active and available to volunteer on programs. A valid Working with Children Check is required and you will also be required to complete our online National Police Check and provide 2 professional referee checks.”
