Elderly Chinese Homes Inc

The Elderly Chinese Home is the first Chinese aged care residential facility established in the State of Victoria and was founded by Mr. Gim Wah Yeo AM, JP and the late Mr. Chew Chee Kin OAM. Incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in 1985 and registered under Victorian Charity Act, it has its own Board of Management Committee. It is supported by the Commonwealth Government and was officially opened on 26 March 1986 by the Govenor of Victoria, His Excellency, Dr. Davis McCaughey. In 1996, the Commonwealth Government provided a grant to expand the facility from 11 to 17 beds to accommodate the demand as the ethnic Chinese population in Australia increases. The foundation stone was laid by the Victorian Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Richard E. McGarvie on 13 April 1996. The next project was to develop the facility to its’ present 32 beds which was made possible by a further grant from the Commonwealth Government in 2000. The project completed successfully and officially declared opened by the 3rd Governor of Victoria, His Excellency, Professor David de Krester, AO on 22 April 2006 – A record Elderly Chinese Home is proud of. Mr. Gim Wah Yeo continues to chair Elderly Chinese Home from 1985 till 2008. Present Under the leadership and determination of the current Chairman, Mr. Albert Lee and the Board of Management, Elderly Chinese Home Inc. is embarking on its yet another extension project of an additional 16 beds which was again made possible by a further grant from the Commonwealth Government. This project will commence work in April 2013 and will target to complete by end of the year. With the support and blessings from the Department of Social Services then known as Department of Heath and Ageing – Commonwealth Government, the local Community especially our Chinese Ethnic Group, Elderly Chinese Home Inc. will endeavour to ensure that the new extension will continue to serve the ever growing ethnic Chinese elders.
