Prisoners Aid ACT

Logo for Prisoners Aid ACT

Prisoners Aid (ACT) currently has limited opportunities for people who wish to gain experience in the Justice and/or Community Services sector. We are seeking individuals who have a genuine concern for the welfare of prisoners at Canberra's Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC) and for their families. Our work is aimed at supporting families and at assisting prisoners to make a successful return to the community. Volunteers will meet with families and friends of prisoners during visiting times and provide support and/or make referrals to other community service agencies. Current roster vacancies are available at the Prisoners Aid office located at the AMC Wednesday - Sunday. The ability to obtain and maintain a Working With Vulnerable People Registration as well as attendance at a compulsory Security Awareness Training conducted by ACT Corrections at the AMC is required prior to any site induction or other training. The experience would be useful for those undertaking Community Services, Mental Health, AOD or Justice studies or a related field.
