About St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland
The Society consists of members and volunteers. Members are part of a Conference. Conferences are typically Parish-based groups who respond to calls for assistance from people in their local community. Conference members assist people by visiting them in their homes to provide support, friendship and material assistance. They work closely with the Society`s Vinnies stores which supply second-hand goods which have been generously donated by the wider community.
People who are being assisted are often provided with furniture, clothing and household goods free of charge from the Vinnies stores through their contact with their local Conference. Vinnies stores also sell affordable clothing and goods to the general public. The profit from the sale of these goods is used to provide resources and support to people in need.
Volunteers generously give of their time and skills to work in the Vinnies stores and in the Society`s depots, where the donated goods are collected, sorted and distributed directly to the people we assist or to the Vinnies stores.
The St Vincent de Paul Society`s members and volunteers work hard to assist people in need and to combat social injustice.
"The St Vincent de Paul Society is a lay Catholic organisation that aspires to live the gospel message by serving Christ in the poor with love, respect, justice, hope and joy, and by working to shape a more just and compassionate society"
We offer a hand up, not just a hand out.
