Australian Mitochondrial Disease Foundation (AMDF)
The Australian Mitochondrial Disease Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation, was formed in 2009. It aims to provide support for patients and their families, raise awareness of mitochondrial disease (mito), raise funds to develop better diagnostic methods and treatments, and to help discover a cure.
Mito is a debilitating genetic disorder that robs the body’s cells of energy, causing multiple organ dysfunction or failure and potentially death. There is no cure and few effective treatments.
