MJD Foundation

The MJD Foundation is a charity, established in 2008 to improve quality of life for Indigenous Australians and their families living with Machado Joseph Disease (MJD) in Arnhem Land and beyond. Our activities include provision of equipment, education, improved services, research and advocacy. There are Indigenous Australians living with MJD in Groote Eylandt, Elcho Island, Darwin, Ngukurr, Oenpelli, Yirrkala, North QLD and Central Australia. MJD is a hereditary neuro-degenerative condition. It initially causes muscular weakness and progresses over time to a total lack of voluntary control and very significant permanent physical disability.
