St Bartholomew's House (Swan)

St Bartholomew's House was established in 1963 in the rectory of St Bartholomew's Churvch on Kensington Street, East Perth where 20 men whose lives were in crisis were provided with shelter. Following a fundraising campaign from 1970, the Appleton Hostels were built in 1975. In 1977 a night shelter annexe opened also increasing the total number of beds to 54. St Bart's received community support by way of Lotteries Commission Grants in 1987 further increasing their capacity and were incorporated in 1988. Over the next 20 years other aged care and mental health support and accommodation services were established at Brown Street and in the community.
