Himilo Community Connect works in partnership with schools and community to improve educational and employment outcomes for Australian-Somali young people, while promoting social cohesion and community connection.
Role: Tutors work with individual or small groups of students aged 5 to 14 years, providing academic support and enrichment in a range of subject areas, including Maths, Science, English and Humanities.
Tutors will be trained to guide and facilitate learning, encourage critical thinking and develop study skills.
Aside from providing academic support, tutors work with students to increase learner engagement, confidence and motivation.
Tutors are required a minimum of one hour (minimum) per week over a 10 week term.
Skills and experience: Applicants will demonstrate-
- Experience or ability in providing sound academic learning support
- Identification with the values of the program
- Experience or interest in working with young people
- Strong interpersonal, organisation and communication skills
