We are a creative writing and storytelling centre and deliver workshops with a focus on creative writing and expression. Our workshops are led by our Storytellers, who are trained educators, with the support of volunteer tutors. Our workshops are designed to help build literacy, confidence and creative problem solving – essential skills to write their own futures.
VOLUNTEER ROLE As a volunteer tutor, you will be working in small groups of anywhere between 2 - 5 young people on a narrative fiction, poetry, performance script, a radio podcast, short film, memoir, comic strip, etc and providing support and encouragement to help nurture the voices of our students.
SKILLS We don't require volunteers to have had experience or qualifications working with young people. We're looking for volunteers who are encouraging, supportive, enthusiastic, good listeners, adaptive and reliable to support our young people.
TIMING We're looking for volunteers who can commit to volunteering between the hours of 8:30am-3:30pm, Monday-Friday, for 1-2 hours each week, the same time and day each week for a minimum of one school term (7-9 weeks)
LOCATIONS Occasionally we run workshops from our Redfern and Parramatta centres, however a majority of our workshops are run in schools and community groups across Sydney and Western Sydney where our students are based. If you'resigning up to volunteer, keep in mind that currently our greatest need is within Western Sydney, particularly our schools in the Blacktown, Liverpool, Campbelltown, Cumberland and Canterbury-Bankstown LGA areas. We have very limited opportunities available in inner city locations.
NEXT STEPS Volunteers are required to attend a 1 hour Information session, complete an application form and relevant paperwork including a Working with Children’s check, police check and participate in a 3 hour Training Session.
