Being a Temcare Carer involves looking after children from ages 0-18 years of age in your own home. It can be for a weekend, a few days or longer. Temcare carers can be singles, couples, or families from all walks of life. Carers can be from any background, and live anywhere in the 63 telephone area.
Caring involves looking after the day to day physical needs of children whilst in your care, and providing play, love, nurturing, emotional warmth and safety for children.
Accredited Temcare Carers have undertaken a nationally recognised training and assessment process involving competency based interviews, safety screening checks, a home safety assessment, and references. Carers are volunteers, but do receive a modest reimbursement for basic food & board expenses incurred in the care of a child. Carers have flexibility in their availability to care for children around work commitments.
Temcare is a program that supports families who are experiencing crisis, illness, stressful circumstances and who don't have access to other significant support; with temporary respite or emergency child care. We provide care for children on a voluntary basis, to support families to stay together, avoid long term separation, or children entering the statutory care system.
Temcare began in 1989 in Northern Tasmania, and is a charitable not for profit program that has assisted many children and their families through difficult circumstances.
