Under the guidance and support of our expert storytellers, volunteers provide a vital role in working with our students in our creative writing workshops.
We're looking for volunteers to commence in Term 2 who can commit to volunteering between the hours of 8:30am-3:30pm, Monday-Friday, for 1-2 hours each week, the same time and day each week for a minimum of one school term (7-9 weeks).
Occasionally we run workshops from our Redfern and Parramatta centres, however a majority of our workshops are run in schools and community groups across Sydney and Western Sydney where our students are based. If you're signing up to volunteer, keep in mind that currently our greatest need is within Western Sydney, particularly our schools in the Blacktown, Liverpool, Campbelltown, Cumberland and Canterbury-Bankstown LGA areas. We have very limited opportunities available in inner city locations.
We do not need volunteers to be trained teachers or writers; indeed your main role is to help the students feel safe, give them permission to be creative, and help them feel excited about the writing process. You will likely have traits including patience, kindness, flexibility and a sense of humour.
Volunteers will be required to follow the COVID Safe procedures provided by the schools.
Benefits: The reward of helping young people improve their literacy and find their voice. In many cases, the learning of new skills in creativity, leadership, writing, and communication.
