As a volunteer for this program, you will meet with your paired older friend once a week or fortnight (1 – 1.5 hours per visit) for 20 visits. Warm conversation & activities such as coffee outings, card and board games, shopping trips, walks, I.T lessons, gardening together & reminiscing are some ideas. In some instances, a visit could simply consist of a phone call or Face-time/Skype chat.
Upon engagement, volunteers must complete: Police Check (paid by Diversitat), Working with Children Check (volunteer) Disability Workers Exclusion Consent Form, CVS Agreement, and undergo orientation and training with CVS Coordinator.
The Community Visitors Scheme is activity received grant funding from the Australian Government. The aim of the Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) is to pair trained volunteers with an older person who is at risk of, or suffering from, isolation or loneliness – by providing company and social activities. To access Diversitat’s ‘Hola Amigo’ CVS Program, the older person will be living at home and receiving a Government Home Care Package – or have been assessed, approved and awaiting their home care package to come through.
“Our ‘Hola Amigo’ Community Visitors Scheme Program aims to create smiles from connections; by nurturing friendships and supports between people with shared language, culture, community, experience, hobbiesor interests.” – Jasmin Findlay, CVS Coordinator
