Freedom Wheels (FW) is a unique program enabling children with disabilities to experience the thrill of riding a bike. Volunteers work together under the direction of the Team Leader to assemble bikes to client specifications established in client assessment clinics. This volunteering opportunity is perfect for retired or semi retired individual who is looking to devote a day a week or fortnight and become a part of a workshop team. An interest in bike and cycling with a mechanical aptitude will help!

  Other related activities

  • Volunteers can assist in promoting FW by attending expos, and the like
  • Collection of bikes and stock from local suppliers
  • Transportation of completed bikes to clients  

Bike Customization

  • Follow instructions ensuring bikes are assembled to a high standard
  • With the guidance of the FW Bike Mechanics as well as comprehensive bike manual and individual bike configuration sheets assemble FW parts as required and fit parts to each bike
  • When each bike is completed, ensure the final configuration is checked against the “bike checklist form”
  • Conduct bike service

  • Comply with Freedom Solutions policies:
  • Adhere to OH&S guidelines to ensure safe manual handling
  • Privacy and confidentiality of clients is to be maintained at all times  

Time Involved

Our projects are on an ad hoc basis depending on your skills set and location. All project work can be done at your home or in our maker space in Northmead or Coburg North if you chose.
