About the role

Western Health's Friendly Visiting program is a free community-based program aimed at increasing socialisation for those who feel isolated by matching a client with a volunteer, who then visits them at home on a regular basis.

The program provides community links, companionship and friendship for clients. It is a valuable monitoring service that assists eligible people to live independently and safely in their own home.

About us

Western Health's Volunteer Program is committed to providing appropriate, relevant and worthwhile volunteer engagement opportunities to our local community that are aligned with the Best Care Framework.

Make it about pride

At Western Health, our employees and volunteers work together to achieve the best possible outcomes for patients and their families. We hold our volunteers in high esteem, and this is demonstrated by inclusive orientation and training sessions as well as recognition through award programs. From day one you will feel part of the Western Health team as you are supported by coordinators onsite and the introductory buddy system.

Make it meaningful

Our volunteers at Western Health enjoy giving back to the community; achieving a sense of purpose; developing new skills; creating friendships and working with socially, culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Our volunteers genuinely want to help improve the experience of our patients and their loved ones.

Make it about future

Community members are encouraged to share their time, skills and life experiences through a range of diverse and innovative volunteering roles.

The program has been established in accordance with relevant National Standards and Principles. All volunteers are required to consent to Police and referee checks, and Working with Children Check. All volunteer applicants are required to provide proof of Immunisation.

Prospective volunteers are required to make a commitment of at least 12 months to their role within Western Health. A typical volunteer role entails one shift per week, or fortnight, of approximately 3 hours duration. We are unable to support short-term or episodic volunteering roles.

Our community engagement opportunities support Western Health in fundraising, events, school and corporate partnerships.
