Hotham Mission operates a free community Homework Club in North Melbourne every Monday and Wednesday (during the school term) from 3pm - 5:30pm for children in primary school. Sessions operate in a community centre during school terms.

We are looking for tutors with good interpersonal skills and who enjoy connecting with others. You don’t need to have teaching/tutoring experience and you don’t need to be familiar with the current teaching curriculum. Hotham Mission welcomes and encourages all volunteers, particularly those from diverse backgrounds. Students are from CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) backgrounds and we would love to hear from candidates that have an understanding and/or a lived experience of these backgrounds.

**Selection Criteria: **

  • Be reliable and committed. We kindly ask that you keep your attendances consistent and are able to commit for a minimum of six months.
  • Enjoy sharing your skills and working with Primary School aged students
  • Have or pass a Working with children check and a National Police Check

Position Description: As a volunteer tutor you are part of a team of tutors. We aim to facilitate tutor-student relationships, as getting to know the students helps support them with their academic skills. Tutors are supported and given the answers to all activities. You don’t need to have previous knowledge or research what we are going to work on. The last half hour of the session is dedicated to a cooking/craft activity, a science experiment or a game. Volunteers are under staff supervision and supported by the program coordinator.
