The Mentoring 2 Work program is an innovative and unique program which assists young adults to identify and address a diverse range of barriers and challenges in finding and maintaining employment.

The young adults are between the ages of 18 and 25 years, unemployed for more than 6 months and receiving a Centrelink payment. They also need to be opening to working with a mentor to improve their employability. The Young Adults are sourced from across the Perth Metro areas.

If you volunteer to become a mentor, it is important you have mature work experience, the ability to establish rapport with a young adult and assist them to achieve their career goals. The young adult will very much benefit from your experience and connecting them to potential employers or training options through your face to face interactions as you work through a Career Pathways Toolkit. It is integral that as a mentor you are trustworthy, non judgemental, have good work networks and demonstrate strong emotional intelligence.

As a Mentoring 2 Work mentor you will be matched with a young adult on the basis of their career needs, life skills and your experience and interests.

COTA (WA), as the lead agency for Mentoring 2 Work, will provide you with support to make the experience one which is positive for both yourself and the young person. COTA (WA) works in partnership with a range of organisations that are focused on assisting young adults and will support in your role as a mentor.
