Entry Screening Volunteer

Mater Volunteers

Mater South Brisbane Hospitals are seeking volunteers to support our screening of patients and visitors entering the hospitals.

Under the Public Health Act during COVID19, all hospitals are required to control the number of visitors entering hospitals and to screen people entering healthcare facilities by asking specific COVID related questions.

You will:

  • Use a script to ask patients and visitors  the questions relating to COVID19 risk

  • If a patient or visitor responds ‘yes’ to any question refer to appropriate staff members (e.g. on occasion this may mean refusing entry)

  • Ensure visitor restrictions are adhered to

  • Give directions to patients looking for COVID testing location

  • Direct patients and visitors to volunteer Ambassadors for directions and escort on campus.

Skills and Experience required:

  • Able to stay on script and respond professionally and empathetically to people

  • Clear speaking voice

  • Able to stand for a three - four hour shift with breaks and when required wear a medical face mask

  • Customer service experience an advantage

Due to safety risk those in vulnerable person categories will not be suitable for this role at this time: over 70 years; over 65 years with diagnosed chronic medical conditions; a person with lowered immunity.

Shift times: Monday to Friday from 8am-12pm, or 12pm-3pm. We require volunteers in this role for the foreseeable future, with a commitment of one shift per week for a minimum of 4 months.

Hospital entrances include the Mater Private Hospital, Mater Hospital Brisbane and Mater Mothers hospitals.
