About us

Inner West Neighbour Aid – Garden Aid connect people who are passionate about helping others with people who need support to live safely and independently at home and remain active in the community by running tailored programs.  Our two main services are Social Support and Home Maintenance.  The following  programmes require the help of volunteers.  Social Outings, Home Visiting, Dog Walking, Gardening, 5 Senses Garden Workshops.

About the role

Do you like getting out and about and having a good chat?

As a Social Outings volunteer you will have the opportunity to improve the quality of life of our elderly community members who might be socially isolated or just looking for another adventure to fill the diary for the week.

The outings are relaxed and social in nature where you might chat together, reminiscing about old-time and swapping stories.  Outings include activities such as park and garden strolls, visits to museums, galleries, local clubs and shopping centres.

The role of the volunteer is to assist the Social Support worker, with bus pickups and drop-offs, ordering and arranging tickets purchases, drink and food orders.  Our clients may have mild mobility/vision/hearing impairments with that in mind this role is suited to people who are reasonably fit and able to assist our client’s movements.

The suitable volunteer will have the following attributes:

  • Able to pass a police check
  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Be reliable and able to commit to at least 6 months
