About the opportunity

It is important to Butterfly that our work is guided by the needs and experiences of the community we serve. So that we can improve the way we do this, Butterfly is establishing the Lived Experience Community Insights Group (LECIG) as a strategic advisory body. With guidance from the group we aim to transform the way we incorporate lived experience knowledge into our work, and by extension the Australian eating disorder sector.

About you

We are looking for people interested in providing their lived experience insights, (either through their own personal experience or as a carer, family member or friend of someone effected by an eating disorder, body image concerns and/or disordered eating) into the development and innovation of our services, policies, and programs. Your insights will be provided through participation in formal committee-style group meetings, as well as other engagement opportunities as they arise. Our goal is to bring together a diverse group of people representing a range of backgrounds, personal experiences and perspectives.

It is important to note that you, or the person you support are not required to have a current or previous diagnosis of an eating disorder to express your interest in being on the LECIG. We are also seeking insights from those who self-identify as having body image issues and/or disordered eating. Previous experience participating in a reference group, committee or focus group will be considered favourably but is not essential.

Time commitment

Members will be expected to participate in a minimum of three half-day meetings per year in the form of at least one face-to-face meeting with the remainder to be held via videoconference, as convened by the Co-Chairs. Members may also be approached for ad hoc advice out of session on issues relevant to Butterfly’s work as needed and according to availability/capacity.

Please read the LECIG Selection Criteria on the Butterfly website for more information about the opportunity including, membership length, group structure, responsibilities, and expectations. Just head to our 'Get Involved' page.

To express your interest please complete the LECIG Expression of Interest Form by 5pm (AEDT) Friday,11 December 2020. You can find the form on our website.

Next steps

Completed EOI forms will be reviewed by a small panel of Butterfly staff. Potential members will be selected based on their suitability against the selection criteria and demographic spread required to accurately represent the Australian community. We will respond to all EOIs by email. If you reach the next round you will be invited to submit a short video answering an additional set of questions designed to understand more about your experience, skills and ability to actively participate as a member of the LECIG.

If you have any questions about the Lived Experience Community Insights Group or the EOI process please contact Butterfly's Lived Experience Lead, Safia Roscoe, at LEN@butterfly.org.au.
