Outline of the role: Cancer Council NSW is a community funded, community focused cancer charity dedicated to working towards a cancer-free future. There are things that we can all do every day to help make this happen.
The Pro Bono Program assists cancer patients and carers to access free legal, financial, workplace and small business support, when they would otherwise be unable to do so, because of cost, illness or other barriers. Our partner firms generously donate their time to assist cancer patients and their families with a range of legal and other matters on a pro bono basis.
We are looking for a volunteer to assist the Pro Bono Program for one-two days per week, starting January 11th 2021. Based at our Woolloomooloo office, you will be:
• Contacting clients to assess their eligibility for pro bono support, and unpack their legal or financial issues
• Preparing emails to brief external lawyers and other professional service providers • Maintaining record keeping and contributing to data management through the pro bono case database.
Our ideal volunteer will: • Be currently undertaking a tertiary qualification in law, in 4th year (combined law) or 2nd year (graduate law / JD) or above. Exceptional 3rd year (combined law) students will also be considered • Be able to commit to volunteering for a period of 6 months, 1-2 days per week • Possess exceptional written and oral communication skills • Have excellent attention to detail • Have strong organisational and time-management skills • Have a commitment to the cause of Cancer Council NSW Desirable • Experience in the not-for-profit sector will be looked upon favourably but is not essential
