The Street-Smart Project (SSP) is a platform for young people aged 15 – 24 years to be active participants in their communities whilst developing the skills and knowledge to provide peer support. This Project is a partnership between Street Industries and 3Bridges Community.

The Street-Smart Project Volunteer role involves:

  • Assisting in the running of the Street-Smart Project, particularly Weekly Outreach & Quarterly Youth Events;

  • Communicating with the Street-Smart Project Team and other volunteers with daily program activities;

  • Assisting Outreach worker and SSP Coordinator in supervising young people and ensure general health & safety and rules of conduct;

  • Building a rapport with young people and listen to their concerns;

  • Facilitating and participate in events, activities and discussions with young people as part of SSP;

  • Assisting with necessary program set-up and clean-up;

  • Undertaking required record keeping procedures including reporting verbally to supervisor and completing any relevant project forms;

  • Participating in support/information meetings and one to one supervision meetings.

  • Attend relevant training courses/workshops;

Volunteering for the Street-Smart Project is an opportunity to gain some mentoring experience.

This role is based at 3Bridges' Youth Zone in Hurstville and across multiple sites in Sydney's St George area such as Hurstville, Kogarah, Rockdale etc.

Individuals aged 16 to 25 years are invited to apply for this role. One of the aims of the Street-Smart Project is to build the capacity of young people to contribute to the community and support their peers through volunteering. People from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
