Animal Ethics Committee (AEC) - Animal Welfare member (voluntary)

Deakin University

Deakin University is seeking a voluntary Animal Welfare member (Category C) to join the Animal Ethics Committee Laboratory-Geelong (AECL-G).

The membership of an AEC is determined by government legislation where the Category C member must be a person with demonstrable commitment to and established experience in furthering the welfare of animals, who is not employed by or otherwise associated with the institution and who is not currently involved in the care and use of animals for scientific purposes. Veterinarians with specific animal welfare interest and experience may meet the requirements of this category. While not representing an animal welfare organisation, the person should, where possible, be selected on the basis of active membership of and endorsement by, such an organisation.

The primary responsibility of the AECL-G is to assess applications to use animals for scientific purposes in line with the requirements of the Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes (the Code) and relevant government legislation.

The AECL-G meet in person eight times a year at the Deakin University Waurn Ponds Campus.
