Key Accountabilities: -Oversee the development of financial policies, processes and their review by the board
-Lead preparation of the annual budget and its presentation to the board for review -Ensure that the appropriate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements are reviewed by the board -Ensure that the board regularly monitors the organisation’s financial performance and alerts it to any important discrepancies between planned and actual figures -Provide leadership of finance/book keeping volunteer to ensure that the organisation maintains the appropriate financial books and records and that these are accurate and up-to-date
-Ensure the organisation maintains accurate and current records of the financial membership of the Association -Ensure that government tax filings and remittances are submitted on a timely basis -Verify that donations are handled appropriately and that grants and service delivery contracts are accounted for in accordance with the requirements of funders -Meet with the external auditor annually, or more often if needed, to identify any financial control and record keeping requirements and oversee requisite actions -Recommend to the board the need for a review or renewal of the auditing services provided -Assist the Chair with the development and presentation of the annual report -Present or co-present the organisation’s financial report and recommend appointment or reappointment of auditor at the Annual General Meeting

Duties of a Board Member:

  • Reconcile, compile and report on monthly financials.
  • Lead creation of the annual budget
  • Create the annual financial statements
  • Advise and guide with all things financial, including available grants
  • Live in Adelaide and be prepared to meet monthly in Norwood
  • Promote the organisation in the community as opportunities arise.
  • Participate, promote and support enthusiastically in any organisation fundraising.
  • Contribute to governance and board admin and paperwork, insurance policies, and ensure compliance with legal accounting requirements.
  • Follow good governance.
  • Contribute to strategic planning sessions.
  • Form and lead a subcommittee if necessary

Responsibilities of a Board Member:

(1) As soon as practicable after being appointed to the Board, the Treasurer must become familiar with Save Our Wildlife Foundation’s (SOWFI) constitution and the SA Associations Incorporation Act 1985.

(2) The Board is collectively responsible for ensuring that SOWFI complies with the Act and its constitution.

(3) Board members must exercise their powers and discharge their duties with reasonable care and diligence.

(4) Board members must exercise their powers and discharge their duties (a) in good faith in the best interests of the Association (b) for a proper purpose.
