This is a group for older people to engage and feel socially connected through structured, group-based activities which develop, maintain and support independent living and social interactions within their community.
The group is involved in planning the program which includes a range of enjoyable and meaningful activities. The program may involve craft activities, a shared lunch, excursions to the beach, gardens, or seeing a movie.
The volunteer supports the Social Support Group Leader and group clients by being involved in the planning, preparation and running of group activities. The Social Support Group (SSG) meets weekly on Thursdays, generally during school terms..
The Social Support Group is located in Panton Hill at the Living & Learning Centre.
Work as part of a team to set up and pack up the room, equipment and materials for the days activities Attend excursions (ability to drive the Community Bus desirable) Provide a welcoming environment to the program Join in program activities to encourage participation Assist in preparing morning tea/light lunch Communicate information relevant to the clients needs and wellbeing to the Social Support Group Leader Respect the confidentiality, independence, values and lifestyles of the clients accessing the SSG program Adhering to OH&S requirements; including but not limited to COVID Safe Plans
Community Support Services - Social Support Group Leader
4 – 6 hours on Thursdays (generally during school terms)
Interpersonal and communication skills Ability to take direction A willingness to commit to a minimum of 6 months with the program
Training and orientation for this position will be provided by the Social Support Group Leader. Ongoing support will be provided throughout the volunteer’s involvement in the program.
