HYPA (Helping Young People Achieve), as part of SYC Ltd (Service to Youth Council) is a South Australian, non-for profit, community based organisation that has a long tradition of helping young people change their lives for the better. Since 1958 we have helped thousands of young people find a safe place to sleep, deal with personal issues, finish school and reconnect with their families.

We are currently looking for expressions of interest for volunteers in our Community Service Order (CSO) Youth Justice Program. The program supports young people to meet their community service requirements, while developing important skills for vocational preparation, employment and independence. Young people who are handed community service orders by the Youth Court must complete a set number of hours doing structured activities, to provide them with the opportunity to reflect on their offending, develop life skills and promote social responsibility. We use a holistic approach and provide an ongoing support network to give young people the best opportunity to make lasting, positive change and achieve their goals. The CSO Program is client centered and individually tailored for each young person.

The role of a volunteer would be to support CSE Officers to partake in activities with the young people in the Program. HYPA have a growing number of community partnerships, some examples include:

*Scouts SA (ground maintenance) *Zoos SA (ground maintenance, exhibit maintenance, animal feeding) *Meals on Wheels (administration, food preparation and delivery) *HYPA Studio West (painting, ground maintenance) *City of Port Adelaide Enfield (graffiti removal program) *Mannum Dock Museum (paddle steamer maintenance)

We are seeking volunteers with specific skills such as landscaping, concreting, building/carpentry, cooking, painting (building) or general maintenance.

Volunteering opportunities currently exist for metropolitan the greater metropolitan Adelaide in all directions as far as Kingscote, Renmark, Keith and Nuriootpa. Positions will be allocated based on your preferred location. Please contact us to find out if we are currently working in your area.

Training is provided and support given by the Volunteer Coordinator and Program Manager. A high level of patience, communication and a commitment to providing a supportive environment for learning and wellbeing is essential.
