Aims of this role:
- To provide safe access out into the community so residents can shop and enjoy aspects of the local/ near local area.
- To provide safe access to community events such as Ecclesias/Churches, clubs, neighbourhood festivals such as Christmas lights, concerts and similar, thus keeping the resident relevant to external community life and to extend their interest.
Skills and Qualifications required:
- Aged between 25 years and 70 years Please Note: Volunteer drivers aged between 65 years and 70 years must produce a current annual medical certificate which states they are competent to drive our bus. The cost of this certificate will be reimbursed by Christadelphian Aged Care.
*For up to 12 seat bus: Current unrestricted C Class Drivers licence issued by an Australian State.
*For over 12 seat bus: Current unrestricted LR/MR/HR Class Drivers licence issued by an Australian State.
Duties and Key Responsibilities: • To wear designated bus driver uniform shirt/safety vest and ID badge. • Collect bus from garage/parked space and bring to designated area for residents boarding access. • Ensure all residents, once seated by staff, have seat belts fastened securely. • To have full knowledge of destination and expectation of the outing (including public toilets/hospitals). • To allow time for residents to disembark safely with staff assistance in the designated area on return. • To complete the log book following all excursions and use of vehicle. • To report and log any concerns regarding the running/maintenance of the vehicle to Facility Manager. • To ensure the bus interior is left in a clean state. • Advise DT/Facility Manager as soon as practical, if unable to attend next driving duty.
It is a requirement that the volunteer undertake comprehensive training to ensure that they are fully conversant with the vehicle and their duties.
Volunteers are an integral part of Christadelphian Aged Care providing a backbone of support to our staff. The Company maintains compliance with all State and Federal Aged Care and Workplace legislations and has put in place COVID safe practices to protect its volunteers.
