The volunteer visitor will be matched with a care recipient of a Commonwealth subsidized aged care home/s who is socially isolated and whose quality of life would be improved by friendship and companionship.

Conducting one on one or group visits with residents aims to alleviate their social isolation, a meaningful social visit may include chatting, participating in an activity together, reading to a resident, playing or listening to music together etc. The social activity is decided on by both the volunteer and the resident to ensure mutual interest.

This role includes:

• Face to face visits in the care home; talking about topics of interest, reminiscence, going for walks/exercise together, engaging in a hobby together, listening to or playing music, accessing the outdoors/gardening, sharing a connection to country etc. • Phone calls • Writing letters, cards or emails • Video calls (when suitable for the care recipient)

We are seeking volunteers who are interested and have a genuine desire to connect with and build relationships with older people/elders living in resident aged care.

Your role as a volunteer visitor will improve the social and emotional well being of our elderly in the community. You will be provided with ongoing support, education and training opportunities, to learn more about topics such as; dementia, palliative care, mental health, disability and advocacy.

The volunteering role may add to positive experiences that can be outlined on a future resume.
