My Community Legal operates two legal centres in the Gold Coast, at Robina and Southport and is currently seeking volunteer legal practitioners experienced in civil and family law to provide their services.

What is our Southport service?

The service is a My Community Legal partnership with the St. Vincent De Paul Society to provide free legal advice to those in need. It currently operates as an appointment-only service and holds advice appointments on alternating Tuesday evenings. The appointments will be booked remotely via Zoom or over the phone depending on practitioner preference. In-person appointments will become available for practitioners willing to have their appointments at our Southport office in due course. My Community Legal will arrange client appointments for practitioners the week prior to the advice date and will forward through client details to review the matter. They will be assisted by our Student Volunteers for the advice appointments.

What is our Robina service?

The service is a walk-in free legal advice service and operates every Thursday evening. It operates as a walk-in service with limited appointments for urgent matters. Practitioners will be assisted by our Student Volunteers for the advice sessions.

What hours are required?

There are 3-4 appointments spots available on a Tuesday evening (fortnightly) for each practitioner, which will run from approximately 6:00pm to 9:00pm remotely, and in due course in-person at our Southport office. Our Southport service would like to be flexible around practitioner circumstances and availability. If practitioners are only available for 2-3 appointments, would like to start earlier or even have your appointments scheduled for during the day, we are more than happy to accommodate.

Our Robina service runs client sessions from 6:00pm to 9:00pm in-person at our Robina office (located in the Robina Community Centre). Practitioners may see between 3-5 clients in one evening depending on complexity of the matter.

Volunteer lawyers require a current Queensland unrestricted practising certificate (or with over 1-year practice experience) and in particular we are looking for local legal practitioners with experience in:

  1. Family Law and Domestic Violence
  2. Civil Litigation and Disputes
  3. Employment
  4. Crime and Domestic Violence
  5. Micro Business
  6. Property
  7. Personal Injury
  8. Migration
