Through the sharing of food and dining experiences, the W.I.S.E program is designed to support customers to remain living independently and safely in their homes. “My W.I.S.E. Choice” services incorporate daily living skills and knowledge that relate to shopping, food preparation, meals, good nutrition, and food safety. As a Group Support Volunteer, you will work as part of a team to help us deliver a range of group-based services at a local MoWSA branch or at a community venue. For example:
Branch lunches: where customers are invited to have their regular MoWSA lunch at their local branch in a restaurant like setting, with other community members Men’s cooking groups: to support men, gain confidence in the kitchen if they find themselves having to cook for themselves for the first time Food and health groups: focus on developing food preparation skills, cooking low-cost meals for one, food safety in the home, nutrition requirements for older people, shopping, and understanding food labels.
Essential Requirements: *Knowledge of MoWSA food safety practices and hygiene practices *Ability to work as a member of a team in a busy environment *Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with customer issues *Have a current police check or be willing to get one free of charge through MoWSA
Desirable Requirements: *Ability to relate to and interact effectively with a range of people from diverse backgrounds *Experience working in the Aged Care sector or with elderly people *First Aid
