At Meals on Wheels SA we recognise that many of our customers experience loneliness and social isolation. Factors such as mobility, long-term health issues, becoming a carer, grief, mental health or a lack of transport, can result in people staying at home for lengthy periods and having little or no communication with friends, family, or their community.
Having good social connections, engaging in meaningful, productive activities and having a sense of purpose, can have positive benefits on a person's overall health and wellbeing.
The “My W.I.S.E. Choice” program is designed to support customers to remain living independently and safely in their homes. Services also incorporate daily living skills and knowledge that relate to shopping, food preparation, meals, good nutrition, and food safety. Using reablement and wellness approaches, customers are empowered to make “W.I.S.E.” choices and stay: Well, Independent and Socially Engaged.
As an Individual Support Volunteer, you will visit identified MoWSA customer(s) in their homes to provide companionship and social support including working with customers to maintain or develop skills, build confidence, maintain routine or achieve their personal goals.
