Volunteer Visitors provide wonderful support and companionship to the elderly in the community who feel alone for various reasons. They can feel alone due to having little contact with friends or relatives, feeling isolated from their culture and heritage or due to mobility issues preventing them from doing things. Volunteer Visiting adds to the quality of life of the recipient and helps them feel less isolated and lonely while increasing their sense of independence.
At Presbyterian Aged Care we have clients who would love such support. Have someone to visit them on a weekly or fortnightly basis to enjoy a cuppa and a chat with, go for a walk with or enjoy a hobby with.
Kindness, compassion and the ability to empathize go hand-in-hand with this role and you will be happy to be guided by the persons interests and mobility.
If this is a program you would like to be involved in and you would like to become a volunteer visitor this may just suit you.
