Esperance RoadWise Committee is made up of an energetic, fun group of people from community as well as various government and non-government agencies that have a common aim to keep road users safer. Driver fatigue is a known crash risk and offering ‘Driver Reviver’ at peak travel times on major roads close to Esperance is a way to reduce that risk.
Driver Reviver is suited to a person who likes being outdoors, enjoys working in a team, chatting to people and keen to make a difference in keeping road users safer. One of the main aims of Driver Reviver is to educate drivers on how to combat fatigue which involves informal conversation and encouraging drivers to step out of their cars to refresh. An orientation pack is available for volunteers with driver educational information to become familiar with key road safety messages.
Volunteers muster to car pool Esperance 10:30 for a 11:00 departure to the designated Driver Reviver site (either at a purpose built gazebo 90km west of Esperance on the Ravensthorpe Highway or Scaddan rest area 50km north of Esperance on the Coolgardie Highway). Note transport provided however a volunteer may use their own if required.
Specific duties for a Driver Reviver volunteer include working in a team to:
- Chat with drivers about fatigue;
- Making cups of coffee/tea for drivers;
- Set up water urn, tea, coffee, biscuits;
