Wynnum Baptist Community Visitors Scheme
Logo for Wynnum Baptist Community Visitors Scheme

As a Community Visitor you will visit an older person, who is socially isolated or at risk of becoming socially isolated, on a fortnightly basis, at the Aged Care facility to provide them with friendship and companionship. This can be through having a chat, playing a board game or doing a word puzzle together, listening to music, reading or perhaps taking a short stroll on the grounds.

An understanding of the ageing conditions and awareness of loss of mobility/ memory/ sight/ hearing or health would be preferable, or a willingness to learn would be acceptable also. An ongoing commitment required to fortnightly visits for a minimum of a 12 month commitment. Applicants must be 18 years or older.

Through this regular one-to-one visiting, wonderful friendships can be formed. These visits from a Community Visitor can help to improve the quality of life of the older person and help them to feel less socially isolated, minimising their feelings of loneliness and depression.

  • An important note - A requirement issued by the Federal Government in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, is that ALL visitors to aged care facilities in Australia must have a current Flu Vaccination with evidence to be provided to aged care facility upon first visit.
