Do you like spending time with the elderly?

National Ageing Research Institute (NARI)

We want to know whether undertaking befriending with older people living in residential aged care helps reduce anxiety and decreases their loneliness.

As a volunteer you will be required to visit with an elderly resident once a week for a period of four months. You will undergo a training session prior to beginning the befriending visits and will be provided with support throughout the program. Upon completion of the program you will be asked some questions regarding your experience.

Volunteers must have the ability to have a casual conversation with an elderly resident for approximately one hour per week.

Volunteers duties will include keeping brief notes and providing weekly updates to the volunteer coordinator. Volunteers can choose to befriend more than one elderly resident and continue for longer than four months if desired.
