Volunteers are needed to offer mentoring and tutoring support to children from refugee backgrounds at their schools. Refugee children often feel isolated and anxious and subsequently withdraw from classroom participation. A caring and supportive volunteer, who is willing to build a trusting relationship, can make the world of difference by assisting a child, or small group of children, to tackle classroom tasks and therefore build confidence and self-esteem. Volunteers are assigned to a primary or secondary school or adult ESL groups, depending on their preference, and are expected to attend for three hours per week, during school hours, for the school year.
Most schools are located in the north-eastern suburbs of Perth including Koondoola, Westminster, Balga, Mirrabooka and also Balcatta and Dianella.
