Red Cross Patient Transport Service provides transport for eligible persons to "essential" hospital and/or specialist appointments for people that have no other means of transportation. The service is extremely important and closes a significant gap, particular for people that are isolated and unable to afford or use mainstream options.
The Convenor is the person that receives the referrals, supports the drivers and brings the two together to see people transported to and from appointments. Co-convening provides opportunities to share the role and make the most of particular strengths and opportunities for learning and applying skills. There are administration, coordination and logistics involved and there is never a dull day. There are four other Convenors supported across the patch by both the Red Cross Villiers St Melbourne and Bendigo staff.
A Patient Transport Convenor helps improve the quality of life and well-being of those most socially and financially isolated within local communities by connecting them with our essential service. With the assistance of a Program Officer, the Convenor organises the Patient Transport service by communicating and building connections with volunteer drivers, medical referral agencies and clients. This role requires computer literacy and organisational skills. The Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support, and access to other opportunities within the World’s largest humanitarian network
