Lifeline’s Text Crisis Support service offers support to people in crisis and emotional distress. The Volunteer Text Crisis Supporter plays an integral role in supporting help seekers during their time of distress and helping to keep them to stay safe by assessing suicide risk and assisting accordingly.
POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES • Complete training program of 4.2 hours per week for up to 12 weeks (eLearning, webinars, assessments, supervision, etc.) • Provide remote (work from home) text-based crisis support to help seekers within the Lifeline crisis support framework • Commit to regular weekly shifts (4 hours) • Practice self-care strategies. • Participate in ongoing professional development, supervision, debriefing, transcript review and feedback activities.
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS • Enthusiasm and willingness to learn • An ability to connect with people of all ages, cultures and backgrounds while maintaining clear boundaries of responsibility • Minimum typing speed of 38 WPM with 90% accuracy • Good verbal and written English communication skills. • Good computer skills (internet, email, data entry, navigation) • A willingness to accept feedback and to respond reflectively. • Emotional resilience & good self-care strategies.
