Volunteer Youth Driver Mentor- Lawnton, QLD

The Salvation Army Australia

Logo for The Salvation Army Australia

Drive for Life is a driver training and mentoring program that equips young people who are overcoming adversity, to obtain their drivers license. The program removes the barriers and provides a pathway towards positive role models, developing independent life skills and improving employment prospects.

We are looking for volunteers to help young people get through the licensing process - both theory and practical. The Volunteer Driving Mentor will be required to sit in the car with program participants, assist in logging necessary hours and reinforce safe driving skills. (Salvation Army vehicles will be used - personal cars will not be needed).

This is as much about engaging both young people and mentors in their community as it is about licensing; we know that feeling part of a community assists with building a sense of belonging, improved mental health, developing pro-social behaviours and connecting to a shared social responsibility.

Driving, mentoring, training case work or similar experiences are highly regarded for the role.
