ROSIES—FRIENDS ON THE STREET
Founded in Queensland in 1987, Rosies provides friendship, belonging and acceptance through street outreach to those who are experiencing homelessness, disadvantage or social isolation. Rosies has 1400 volunteers active across 14 Branches, providing some 200 outreaches per month across Queensland.
Rosies is seeking volunteers to assist with Youth Outreach activities on Monday nights (4.30pm to 8.30pm) and Thursday mornings (10am to 1.30pm). Mondays, Rosies provides a BBQ or other dinner, drinks and games/activities. Thursdays, Rosies provides drinks to support the weekly Youth Games activities run by Adapt Mentorship. This is a great opportunity to give back to the community, talk with local residents and have some outdoor fun!
As part of a team (2-3), this role regularly participates in: • Packing of van (food, drinks, etc.) • Serve tea/coffee/noodles/other food • Play games (e.g. basketball, frisbee, handball) • Pack-up, cleaning and other duties after each outreach • Participate in a briefing and debriefing process • Ideally drive a van • Observe Health and Safety practices, reporting to the Team Leader any hazards or incidents during outreach • Exemplify the values of Rosies at all times
To fulfil this role, it is essential to have: • Sound interpersonal skills • Rapport and empathy building skills • Working with Children (Blue Card) or ability to obtain
