Volunteer Role - Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service
The Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service are seeking volunteers to join our vibrant team at Nambour and Gympie Hospitals. With a variety of roles including patient and visitor support, specialty and inpatient roles in multiple facilities across the Sunshine Coast, we are sure to have the perfect role for you.
Multiple roles exist at Nambour General Hospital, Gympie Hospital, Maleny Soldiers Memorial Hospital and Glenbrook Aged Care Facility.
Sunshine Coast University Hospital at Birtinya has limited roles available, mostly in the afternoon or early mornings in speciality roles.
Roles available include:
Main Reception, Cancer Care Centre and Emergency Department
These roles are the best to get to know the hospital and services. Although mainly a meet and greet role, there are other tasks you will perform including,
- Handing out donated items, restocking and sorting donations for patients
- Assisting patients to locate speciality areas such as clinics and allied health
- Escorting patients to the clinic location (Level 1 or Adem Crosby Centre)
- Push patients in wheelchairs to clinics (if required and if appropriate)
- Handing out activity packs/ teddies to patients waiting
- Folding letters, assisting with patient information packs (unidentified)
- Assisting with adhoc requests such as handing out forms, surveys for patients to complete, stamping envelopes, monitoring the parents retreats etc
Inpatient roles
The volunteer role in the inpatient wards enhances the patient's experience by providing a companion to those who may not have anyone visiting them. Patients could be staying a long time in the ward or they require additional support during their short stay. The role is not handling patients (no patient handling required), it is essentially hands off talking to patients, walking through the wards to stop at points of interest designed to initiate conversation and positive thoughts, handing out patient activity packs to keep them occupied.
If you play an instrument or sing you may like to visit the wards to provide music to patients.
Speciality Roles Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) ONLY
- Women’s and Family Services - handing donations to new parents, tidying the parents retreat, making up maternity packs (birth books, pt information packs).
