Meal Mates Volunteers assist our hospital patients during meal times receive adequate nutrition and hydration, which are essential for healing and recovery. Volunteers provide practical assistance to patients by opening containers, cutting up food, hand-over-hand assistance to eat, or feeding patients when needed. Volunteers also provide companionship while patients are eating. This is a rewarding role, which will suit someone who is friendly, has good communication skills, the ability to quickly build rapport, and displays a caring supportive approach. Each shift (breakfast, lunch or dinner) is approximately 2 hours, once per week, weekdays. Training is provided, so that volunteers feel comfortable and confident to assist and feed patients. All volunteers receive ongoing support from the Volunteer Services Manager.
