The role of the Veteran Support Volunteer is vital in creating a sense of wellbeing, connection, and community for veterans.

Main Tasks:

  • Follow the guidance from staff and maintain confidentiality at all times

  • Work alongside veterans to support them achieving their identified goals . This will be in conjunction with the Veteran’s Care Worker at Homes for Heroes

  • Create connections with veterans and empower them to create positive and personally meaningful relationships. You may assist with things like BBQ and other activities that enhance social connection

  • Support veterans to learn and practice new skills

  • Promote the wellbeing and empower veterans to identify their strengths

  • Regularly communicate with the staff and report any concerns immediately

  • Attend Volunteer Check-ins every 8 weeks, at the mutually convenient time

Personal Qualities:

  • Knowledge or personal experience in military trauma, recovery from mental health condition, substance misuses or homelessness

  • Have patience, kindness, and empathy

  • Ability to make personal connections with people from different backgrounds

  • Be reliable, flexible and committed

  • A desire to make a positive difference in someone’s life

  • Alignment with RSL LifeCare values and willingness to follow policies and procedures
