Tech Industry - Career Coach Program

Generation Australia

Generation Australia is a not-for-profit organisation. We support people facing barriers to employment into otherwise inaccessible careers.

We currently offer four different 'Get Into Tech' training programs and employment support including Cyber Security, Web Developer, Cloud Practitioner, and Data Analytics. Our participants are people facing barriers to employment (CALD Background, First Nations people, parents with no income, Women in Tech and Young People).

Once the participants complete our training program, Generation offers a variety of resources to ensure they can get a job, like different networking events, mentoring group sessions and connections with employers. However, some of the participants need extra support from experts already working in the IT Industry, which is why we created the 'Volunteer Career Coaches Program'.

During this program, you will spend 1 hour per week for 7 weeks coaching one of our participants. This will cover the topics included in our career coaching handbook, like the job application process, interview skills and storytelling, networking and workplace communication. Each topic aims to equip the participant with the skills and mindsets required to feel confident when applying for roles and entering the Australian workforce.

Material and session plans will be provided, but the curriculum is flexible so there's opportunities for you to bring your own experiences and expertise to the program too. Volunteering times and days are also flexible.

Skills and experience we're looking for:

  • Availability for 1 hour a week for 7 weeks. Times/days are flexible.
  • Currently employed within the IT industry. If you've taken a career break or previously worked in the industry we'd also love to hear from you!
  • Previous coaching or mentoring experience would be a bonus, but is not a requirement.
