Aboriginal Board Member Opportunities – Aboriginal Community Services

Aboriginal Community Services

The Aboriginal Elders and Community Care Services Incorporated (Aboriginal Community Services) is seeking new Board members to broaden the skills and experience of its governing Board. Aboriginal Community Services provides aged care services in home support and residential aged care facilities in Adelaide Metro area and also in the APY Lands. In total, we support over 900 Elders.

As an ACCO, our Constitution provides for the majority of the Board members to be Aboriginal People. We are seeking up to four new Board members. These are identified positions which can only be filled by Aboriginal People. You will be supported in your role by the Board Chair, other Aboriginal members of the Board and also the CEO. Over 40% of our ACS workforce identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

In addition to your understanding and connection to culture and community, other skills and experience of value to the Board include Aged Care or health sector experience and experience working at a management level. Previous Board experience or relevant governance qualifications would be highly desirable but not essential.

Time commitment required includes participating in monthly Board meetings (up to 10 per year) and Board sub-committee meetings (4 per year). Term of appointment is two years. While Board roles are currently not remunerated, the opportunity for appropriate remuneration is being explored in early 2024.

The successful candidates will be required to become a member of the The Aboriginal Elders and Community Care Services Inc Association to be eligible to be a Board member. As a member of Key Personnel, the candidate must satisfy the legislative requirements, including aged care worker screening, suitability to work in the aged care industry and declaration of any conflict of interest prior to appointment.

For more information on the opportunity and to receive an ACS Board Opportunity information pack, please contact Graham Aitken, CEO, at [email protected] or by phone on 0420 205 574. If you are interested but are not sure whether you have the right experience, please contact us to discuss.
