Spare Parts is on the hunt for volunteers for their upcoming theatre season of Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge at the Claremont Showgrounds from 11-15 of March and 30-12 of April.

Adapted from the book by Mem Fox and Julie Vivas Set in the old people’s home next door to where Wilfrid lives, this fun and heart-warming story follows his affectionate bond with his favourite old person, the 96-year-old Miss Nancy.

A unique and interactive performance, this adaptation takes the opportunity to recruit local seniors and grandparents to become part of the cast, creating a show that children will cherish by featuring their own family members on stage. Wilfrid and Miss Nancy, both beautifully hand-crafted life-size puppets, come to life through the magical touch of our expert puppeteers, winning the hearts of young and old. Exploring the power of objects as vessels of memory and memories as the threads that connect us to each other, this story is a true celebration of intergenerational friendship that will bring laughter, inspire joy and leave ripples of connectedness in the audience long after the performance.

No prior experience is necessary – Spare Parts will provide you with training. All you need is a friendly attitude, good communication skills, and a willingness to work as part of a team. You'll need to have a working with children's check, as the safety of their young audience members is Spare Parts’ top priority. Don't worry if you don't have one already - they can help you through the process.

In addition to the satisfaction of helping others and supporting the Arts, volunteering as an usher at Spare Parts means you watch unique and exciting puppetry performances for free. Plus, you'll have the chance to be a part of their vibrant volunteer community - a diverse group of students, parents, retirees, and everyone in between.
