E-waste Receival, Sorting and Storage volunteer-Scrap metal focus
Our e-waste receival, sorting and storage volunteers meet and greet individual and corporate donors as they come to drop off their unwanted e-waste. The donations then get sorted into their respective areas, with items being carefully checked to see if they can be refurbished and returned to the circular economy.
However, not all donated items are suitable for refurbishing, so they need to be sorted into their component parts, ready to be collected by well-established and reputable recycling companies. We're looking for a volunteer with an eye for scrap metal: identifying it, sorting it, storing it and with the ability to liaise with the recycling and resource recovery companies as they arrive to collect the various metals.
Essential skills for the role:
- good verbal communication skills, and the ability to interact with other volunteers, visitors and company reps
- working knowledge of scrap metals, how to recognise the different metals, sort and store them, and prioritise resource recovery of the metals on site
- our scrap metal volunteer will be able to work alone and as part of a team
- all our volunteers work in an environment where feedback and direction are both given and received in order to get the job done quickly and efficiently
- a working knowledge of the going price for the various scrap metals would also be an advantage
