At our Westhaven Aged Care Community in Footscray, we have lovely older individuals of Vietnamese heritage (Di sản văn hóa Việt Nam) who would benefit from companionship (tình bạn).

By becoming a Baptcare Companion (Bạn đồng hành Baptcare), you will have the chance to improve their wellbeing through activities such as;

  • conversation (cuộc trò chuyện) about shared & common interests, reminiscing on old stories
  • reading or listening to Vietnamese news (đọc hoặc nghe tin tức bằng tiếng Việt)
  • listening to Vietnamese music & singing (nghe nhạc Việt Nam và hát)
  • arts and crafts (nghệ thuật và thủ công)
  • taking a stroll (đi dạo)
  • playing card or board games (chơi bài hoặc trò chơi bảng)
  • gardening (làm vườn)
  • culturally specific and individually appropriate support to enhance their wellbeing.

What kind of Volunteer are we looking for?

  • a number of people who can speak Vietnamese (Tiếng Việt)
  • friendly (thân thiện)
  • enthusiastic (nhiệt tình)
  • flexible (linh hoạt) and able to adapt to different situations
  • able to work independently & self-motivated (có khả năng làm việc độc lập và có động lực tự thân)
  • strong verbal communication skills (kỹ năng giao tiếp bằng lời mạnh mẽ)

Founded by volunteers over 80 years ago, Baptcare are a purpose driven and faith-based organisation focused on delivering the best care to people of all ages, cultures, beliefs and circumstances. We deliver care to people in Residential Aged Care, Retirement Living, In Home Care, Family and Children Services, Affordable Housing and Disability Services across Victoria, South Australia, and Tasmania.
